Safety & Healthcare in Thailand

Thailand is one of the most visited countries in the world. Here is what you need to know about safety, healthcare, and looking after yourself during your stay.

Thailand Is Safe for Solo Travellers

Thailand welcomes over 30 million international visitors each year. It has well-developed infrastructure, reliable healthcare, and a culture of hospitality that makes it one of the safest destinations in Southeast Asia for Western visitors.

That said, travelling abroad for therapeutic care requires specific reassurance. This page addresses the practical safety and healthcare questions our guests most commonly ask.

Safety & Healthcare

Healthcare Standards

Thailand has excellent private hospitals, many with international accreditation (JCI). English-speaking doctors are widely available. We maintain relationships with nearby medical facilities for any health needs that arise during your stay.

Personal Safety

Trat province (where Silkworth is located) is a quiet, rural area with very low crime rates. Our retreat is in a secure, private setting. Thailand in general has lower violent crime rates than many Western countries.

Travel Insurance

We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering medical treatment, repatriation, and cancellation. If you have a pre-existing mental health condition, check your policy covers this. We can advise on suitable providers.

Medication

If you take prescription medication, bring enough for your entire stay plus a buffer. Carry a doctor’s letter listing your medications. Most common medications are available in Thailand, but bringing your own supply avoids any gaps.

Our Duty of Care

While you are at Silkworth, your safety and wellbeing are our responsibility. We maintain:

  • Clear emergency protocols for medical, psychological, and natural disaster scenarios
  • Relationships with local hospitals and English-speaking GPs
  • Staff trained in basic first aid and mental health first aid
  • 24-hour on-site presence during your stay
  • Travel assistance for any medical appointments needed during your stay
