Conditions We Support

Anxiety & Depression Retreat in Thailand

Intensive, daily therapeutic support for adults whose anxiety or depression has not responded adequately to outpatient treatment. A residential format that allows for deeper, more consistent work.

When Weekly Therapy Is Not Enough

Anxiety and depression frequently coexist, each reinforcing the other in a cycle that can feel impossible to break from within your daily life. At our residential retreat in Thailand, we treat both conditions as part of a unified picture – not as separate diagnoses requiring separate approaches.

Our programme combines dedicated 1:1 counselling with mindfulness and meditation practices specifically adapted for anxiety management and mood regulation. Where anxiety or depression has traumatic roots – which is more common than many people realise – we use EMDR therapy to address the underlying experiences driving your symptoms.

If your anxiety is primarily connected to traumatic experiences, our trauma recovery programme may provide a more targeted approach. Either way, the first step is the same – a conversation with our team to understand your situation.

How We Support Anxiety & Depression

Intensive 1:1 Therapy

Multiple sessions per week with your dedicated counsellor, using integrative approaches tailored to your presentation. We explore not just symptoms but the underlying patterns, beliefs, and experiences that maintain them.

EMDR for Underlying Trauma

Anxiety and depression often have roots in unprocessed traumatic experiences. Where appropriate, EMDR can help reduce the emotional charge of these memories, creating space for your current symptoms to ease.

Structured Daily Routine

Depression thrives in chaos and isolation. Our daily programme provides gentle structure – regular meals, therapy sessions, mindfulness practice, and social contact – without being rigid or overwhelming.

Therapeutic Community

Isolation makes both anxiety and depression worse. Living alongside others who understand your experience – without judgement – is itself a powerful therapeutic intervention. Connection is medicine.

When Anxiety or Depression Has Traumatic Roots

Many people experiencing anxiety or depression discover that their symptoms are connected to earlier traumatic experiences – sometimes ones they have not previously identified as trauma. Adverse childhood experiences, difficult relationships, loss, or a single overwhelming event can create patterns that surface years later as anxiety, low mood, or emotional numbness.

When anxiety or depression has traumatic roots, traditional approaches like CBT alone may provide coping strategies without addressing the underlying cause. At our retreat in Thailand, we assess each client for trauma-related factors and – where appropriate – incorporate EMDR therapy into your programme. EMDR is specifically designed to help the brain reprocess traumatic memories, and it can significantly reduce the anxiety and depressive symptoms they drive.

If you suspect your anxiety or depression may be connected to trauma, our trauma recovery programme provides a framework for exploring this safely. Our team can help you determine the most appropriate approach during the admissions conversation.

Residential Anxiety and Depression Treatment in Thailand

Anxiety and depression are heavily influenced by environment. Recovering in the same setting that contributes to your symptoms – the same commute, the same pressures, the same grey weather – limits what therapy alone can achieve. Thailand changes the equation:

A break from environmental triggers. Anxiety is often maintained by the routines, relationships, and pressures of daily life. Moving to a completely different environment in Thailand disrupts these patterns and gives your nervous system the space to respond differently.

Natural mood support. Thailand’s warm climate and abundant natural light directly support mood regulation. Sunlight boosts serotonin production and helps regulate circadian rhythms – both frequently disrupted in depression. The outdoor lifestyle encouraged by the Thai climate naturally incorporates the gentle exercise and nature exposure that research consistently links to reduced anxiety and improved mood.

Intensive therapeutic access. In the UK, you might wait 6-18 months for talking therapy through the NHS, then receive one session per week. At our retreat in Thailand, you receive multiple 1:1 sessions per week alongside group therapy, daily mindfulness practice, and – where appropriate – EMDR for traumatic roots. This intensity allows genuine progress in weeks rather than months.

Cost advantage. Residential therapeutic care in Thailand costs from £2,224 per month all-inclusive. See our full pricing breakdown.

Choosing Your Stay Length

Anxiety and depression recovery is not linear, and the right length of stay depends on the severity and complexity of your situation. Here is what each timeframe typically allows:

4 Weeks: Stabilisation

Suitable for moderate anxiety or depression where you need a structured break to establish healthier patterns. Focuses on stabilisation, building coping strategies, and beginning therapeutic exploration of underlying causes. You will leave with practical tools and a clearer understanding of your triggers.

8 Weeks: Deep Processing

Allows deeper work on the patterns maintaining your anxiety or depression. If there are traumatic roots, 8 weeks provides time for meaningful EMDR processing alongside regular 1:1 counselling. Most clients with moderate-to-severe symptoms see significant improvement within this period.

12 Weeks: Full Programme

Our recommended duration for long-standing anxiety and depression, particularly where previous treatments have not been effective. The full programme includes thorough assessment, intensive therapeutic work, and a structured reintegration phase. See what a 12-week programme looks like in detail.
