Our Therapies

Mindfulness & Meditation

Daily practices drawn from contemplative traditions – breathwork, walking meditation, and nature-based mindfulness. Practical tools for calming your nervous system, not spiritual bypassing.

Mindfulness as a Clinical Tool

At Silkworth, mindfulness is not about achieving enlightenment or positive thinking. It is a practical, evidence-supported skill for developing awareness of your body’s stress responses and building your capacity to stay present with difficult emotions without being overwhelmed by them.

For trauma survivors in particular, mindfulness must be taught with care. We use trauma-informed approaches that meet you where you are – starting with external focus and grounding before moving to internal awareness, and always offering you the choice to stop or modify any practice that feels too activating.

Mindfulness is an integral part of all our programmes, supporting burnout recovery through nervous system regulation, anxiety management through present-moment awareness, and trauma recovery through body-based practices that complement EMDR and 1:1 counselling.

Our Mindfulness Programme

Breathwork

Specific breathing techniques for nervous system regulation – activating the vagus nerve to shift from fight/flight into a calmer state. Simple, teachable skills you can use anywhere, anytime.

Walking Meditation

Mindful movement through the tropical gardens and surrounding nature. Particularly helpful for people who find seated meditation too still or too triggering – the body in motion can be easier to stay present in.

Nature-Based Mindfulness

Thailand’s natural environment – warmth, birdsong, green spaces – is itself a regulatory tool. We weave mindfulness into time outdoors, using sensory grounding to anchor you in the present moment.

Body Scan & Interoception

Developing awareness of physical sensations – learning to notice tension, activation, and ease in your body. This interoceptive awareness is foundational for emotional regulation and is introduced gradually, with care.

Mindfulness & Trauma - An Important Note

Standard mindfulness instruction can sometimes be retraumatising for people with unprocessed trauma. Closing your eyes, turning attention inward, or sitting still in silence can activate traumatic memories rather than calm the nervous system.

Our mindfulness facilitators are trained in trauma-sensitive approaches. Every practice is offered with modifications, choices, and the explicit permission to stop at any time. We begin with external, grounding-focused practices and move toward internal awareness only when you are ready.
